Error code 16008 - check engine

Check engine light in my A4 3.0 has been on over a week. Over the phone dealer says no problem, it's probably just the gas cap or I am filling my tank with the engine running (yeah right!!). I am bringing it in to dealer on Monday. Yesterday I had it in to my local mechanic to mount winter tires. He ran the code and said the error number is 16008- catalytic converter warming up. Anyone know the proper fix for this error? I want to know how to respond when the dealer tells me again that it's only the gas cap!!

A friend had a similar situation. His converter was replaced. He also has a 3.0

pft, i have had check engine lite for 2.5 weeks

its GREAT!. My turbo is ****ed, and i am running basically zero boost.

A steady check engine light is always emissions related (blinking is another story)...m..

With that code, I'd guess either the cat itself has something wrong (the heating element), or the sensor.

The dealer can fix it under warranty if that's the problem, and it's not difficult once the car is up on the lift.
