Default that's not what I meant

Almost everyone here has a V1, so when you ask folks to give their opinions between the two, opinions will be biased since they have either not used the 8500 or very few here have.

I don't take sides, I am just fair that's all.

Default Something is wrong with your V1 then.....

I have had the opportunity to use three different V1's and three different 8500's side by side on three 600+mile trips. The V1's ALWAYS picked up the radar (steady state) LONG before the 8500's.

The 8500 is a great detector, much better than anything other detector (except the V1), but it just isn't paying on the same field as the V1...

Default I've ran an 8500 and I now have a V1.... I have some issues with both...

I liked the multi mode on the V1 where it showed you the signal strenght.

The arrows don't mean jack ****, if it goes off you slow down, not look around and see where the guy is....

The arrows barely even function properly and I've been trying to figure it out..

The arrows show the wrong direction, I've been on the freeway staring at at the damn cop and it said he was behind me.

The guy from V1 used to work for escort, so most of the technology is the same, escort has way more money invested into their dections.

The detections are pretty similar, the V1 reports have all been biased, if you go to the ones on their webpages, whereas if you go to the ones on escorts it shows them ahead, and they dont share articles.

I've ran with BOOSTED back from up north and our radars went off pretty equal.

I think they are both great radars, the V1 needs a little more perfection, and I dont think the fvcking updates should cost anything if they correct problems, like the damn arrows not displaying the right direct.

I should go out and take a picture, right down the street there is one of those you are going XXX mpg, and it says its behind me.

The arrows are the only potentially helpful thing on the V1 and they dont work.

If I had the money I'd get a V1 when buying a new one but the Escort 8500 is a good second choice.

Default I've had a V1 for a few months so far and it's definitely earned me back my $$...

unfortunately, thanks to an *** cop, it can't do anything against "stopping too far in front of a stop sign"

Default I think there is a little bit of a learning curve with the V1...

I too have noticed the arrows seem to be misleading at times... I think this is because the radar signal can be blocked and reflected by things around you, giving a false direction. Where the arrows really help is when you are on a sparsley populated highway, with no traffic around you. I find them very accurate in these situations, which is when I will most likely by speeding.

Default Had both, kept the Passport 8500...

They both work extermely well, I was just happier with the results of the Passport. The V1 seemed a little too bulky for me and I don't really care about the arrows, that is what eyes are for. I also really enjoy the advanced signal meter on the Passport because it breaks down how many of each signals appear. It saved my *** the other day in a spot that always shoots off X and K band, but this time there was one more K band present. Turned out it was a motorcycle cop...Thanks Escort!

Default Shortly after I bought my V1, I had the same issue...

The cop would be in front of me, but the V1 showed he was behind me. I contacted Valentine about it, and they suggested I send the unit in, which I did. When I called there to inquire about what was wrong, I was informed that the antennas were misaligned, perhaps from a fall.

My detector had fallen off the windshield once before, but I never considered that could have damaged it. Since I received it back, it has performed perfectly (and I have been much more careful with it... =P)

Default Have three V1's (one for each car). I also own an 8500 which sits in the house.

If you are considering an Escort product I definately would not go with a battery powered detector. If you want something good get the 8500. I guess the battery powered detectors are really inferior.
