ESP and ABS lights intermittently come on
Hey everyone. Just want to say "hi" after lurking here at the B6 A4 forum for almost a year. Reading this forum convinced me to buy an A4 and I purchased a 2003 A4 3.0 last Oct and absolutely love the car. No mods yet but I'm putting together my wishlist based on this forum.
Well, I'm coming up on 10k miles and about to take it in for it's first service. But just want to get any thots from you all on the ESP and ABS lights. Mine come on every now and then for no reason. Sometimes when I start the car the ESP light comes on and stays on, sometimes for the duration of the trip or it'll turn off after 10 - 15 minutes. The ABS light might come on with it, or comes on a few minutes into the trip. The only thing I've noticed is that it seems to do it a lot during hot weather. During the winter I never saw the lights come on. Anyways, I'd appreciate any thots on this. I've seen a few other posts on similiar problems and a few have suggested faulty sensors.
Thanks guys. Glad to be out of the shadows and posting finally.

Congrats and welcome! As far as the warning lights....m....
your ABS electonic module may be sensing a temporary fault, or a fault that is just on the edge of pass/fail. You should specifically ask your dealer to investigate when doing your 10k service. Let us know how it works out too.
Again, welcome!
Again, welcome!

Ditto. The ABS and ESP are two independent systems that work together...
They use each others sensors to help stabilize the car during some maneuvers. The ESP can fail without affecting the ABS but the reverse is not true. For ESP to work you need a properly working ABS. In other words no ABS, no ESP.

Yup, I had the same problem....
Dealer looked and looked and looked. Found the fault code but could never figure out what the real problem was. The tech figures it something in the ABS.
