Default Fan Control Module code issue

Hello,

I did some searching and still have some questions, please help if you have some input
I got this code after scanning the car because the temp went throught the roof over the weekend:
18339 - Coolant Fan Control Module (J293): Malfunction
P1931 - 004 - No Signal/Communication - Intermittent

However today the fan worked and the temp was fine.
So does this control module go out over time? Is there a way to test it with VAG?

I found people talking about a 300 vs 600 watt unit, how will I know which the dealer is giving me? and is the attached DIY for a 300 or 600 watt version?<ul><li><a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/a4gen2/msgs/1047956.phtml">https://forums.audiworld.com/a4gen2/msgs/1047956.phtml</a</li></ul>

Default The fan wattage is listed as a "PR" number code on the build ticket. ...

You should check the harness connector behind the driver's headlight, for any loose or corroded wire terminals that would cause the intermittent fault that was stored. "Intermittent" in this context means the fault conditions that must exist for the code to be stored, did not exist when the car was scanned. Clear the code/s after checking the harness connector, unplugging and reconnecting the connector will wipe the contacts. You can use VAG-COM to run the fans in diagnostic test output mode. I think the fan controller is the same regardless of fan wattage.

Default More questions....

I checked the connections first &amp; everything looks good.

So I attempted to test the fans with the output test module in VAG. I skipped the other outputs to get the the 10th test which was the coolant fan level 1 test. When I run it nothing much happens. I hear clicking in the engine bay but the fans never turn on....

Am I running the test properly?

Also I can get the fan to run with the AC, is that wired differently, or does that complicate my problem? Or at least sometimes as the fans worked 2-3 times when I tested with the AC this morning, however now I cannot get them to kick on......

Thanks,

Default I believe that each output test must be run in sequence for the next test to be actually performed.

That is, don't skip any of the prior tests, run each one up to the fan test, and run that in turn. BTW, YGM.
