fuel pump problems
Has anyone had any problems with their fuel pumps? I got my 2002 A4 1.8T in October and two days after taking it home I noticed that it cranked too many times before starting, especially after it had been sitting for a while. I took it in and my service department determined that it was a faulty fuel pump. So after waiting over a month for the part to come in I finally got the fuel pump replaced and to my dismay.....the problem was still present. I took the car in today and I'm waiting for my service advisor to call. I am very disatisfied with Audi in general. There parts department is very inefficient. Has anyone had any problems similar to mine? How many times does a "normal" car crank before firing up? Is my car a lemon??

I has this issue with a Accord but it was not the fuel pump.
I am not sure if this is true but it is a habit that I have formed.
In a Honda you are supposed to turn the key to the ON position until the check engine light goes off. Then start the car. This allows the fuel pump to prime itself and supply fuel pressure to the engine before trying to start the car. It only takes about 2-3 seconds.
(At least this is what I was told by a mechanic.)
With my A4 I turn the car to ON then wait for some of the indicator lights to go out before starting it. (2-3 seconds) I have not picked a particular indicator yet. This should allow the fuel pump to time to prime and pressurize the system.
It may be worth a try.
