Default Gas tank collapse and fuel sender damage

Hello,

this should be simple, but not finding solution easily. For some reason fuel tank is not venting and collapses as it runs through fuel, this in turn crushes the fuel level sender.

Anybody know where the vent pipe is located and how to clear it?

thanks in advance!

Not knowing any better, I'd think the fuel filler caps is where a one-way valve is. Perhaps try a new cap.

Tank vent is part of the fuel filler neck (below gas cap). The vent is connected to the charcoal canister located underneath the spare tire (beneath car). Usual vent system failure mode is that the charcoal canister gets clogged with fuel or condensation, then you cannot fill tank more than about 1/2 gallon without overflowing. Engine running at high vacuum pulls fresh air into the system via a small air filter (located behind left/rear wheel well), through the leak detection pump and through the charcoal canister which then pulls excess trapped fuel vapor into the engine intake to be burned rather than vented. Might be possible that if something were messed up with filter or leak detection pump, then excess engine vacuum might collapse the tank rather than drawing fresh air in through the air filter?

thanks for the insight, my son in the military just purchased this vehicle, I am trying to get this fixed before driving it down to him in TX. Looking through the past years maintenance records it looks like the "vapor canister purge solenoid" and the "leak detection pump filter" were both replaced at separate visits for "excess pressure when opening gas cap". does this give any clues at to where the collapsed tank, fuel level sender problem lies?

thanks!!
