an unusual (he doesn't often post here) post offering to produce 195 hp chips for those who were concerned about the fueling issues. I wondered at the time if it was a two step program. Step one, sell a Gen1 big hp chip .. step two replace it with a 195hp chip.

Why not be the first to market with a safe chip producing 195hp, then figure out how to produce more horsepower safely and release it then.
Two things are accomplished this way:
1) You're not taking chances with the client's car.
2) You're hooking the client into buying your product early.
Just throwing out some ideas...

If the original offer was for the 195 only, that would confirm APR's stance. And, since APR had already stated they had a fuel system component designed to work around that issue most people would just wait and see what power APR's setup promised.
By offering a higher HP chip some folks would choose to take the chance and go for the gold. Now their money is spent and converting to a different chip by the same maker is easier. Offering a 195 hp chip after announcing the availablity of the high power chip (and the surrounding discussion here) also makes marketing sense .. first to market with something to assuage the concerns of folks about the high output chip. If APR is correct and there is a measure of safety in the ECU sub-routines the risk of damage is minimal. If the reports I've read are true (chip reports here)the issue is pretty obvious and it seems the posters noticed a problem straight away and are avoiding loads that induce the symptoms ... again minimizing the potential for damage.
Just like the marketing 101 post on the original thread, accusing APR of marketing strategies, one can argue the flip side with GIAC.
Now after all that here's my .02 ... It isn't a case of marketing 101 on either's part. I think it is a difference of one company understanding the entire Audi system and the other understanding fuel maps and timing maps.

Hi Hybrid,
I prefer to contact customers via email.
I am sorry you are having trouble. Please feel free to contact GIAC. I find it hard to believe that you have not contacted us (nor Eurotech- email/v-mail/his cell, I just phoned them) with these problems (I am not sure your motivation or what you are trying to get accomplished here?). I have been watching very closely feedback on our A4 2002 programs, email and all. They are new programs, yet thoroughly tested. And Tons have been installed, more by Audi dealers than anything. The first tested version 01 "alpha" version went in "two" cars, that is it. 01 made 16 psi part throttle, then we made 01a for the 5-speeds to be smoother, we also have a lower power tip version. It is comparable to 2001.5 a4 programming.. Ask Brian.de he has one. "01a".
The only issue as it stands that I am aware of is 91 octane. I think we need a chip for 91. Original testing was done on 93 octane at Curry's..
We own and do a lot of development on our 2001.5 A4 car which is VERY similar in its needs.. The 2002 settings in the 2001.5 perform very well.
Please contact us and we can try to rectify your situation. If all else fails feel free to call Brian for a refund.
Good luck,
Garrett Lim

is not typical. Assuming the chip you got is faulty, would you please provide a followup response once the problem is addressed. I'm assuming the problem is being addressed as we speak.

simply an exceptional case (bad socket, faulty chip, wrong octane gas, wrong chip for the specific model, etc.).
