How come when launching, the rpm's drop as you let the clutch in first gear? Seems to make it jerk.

I still haven't figured out how get a good launch yet....
Before I chipped it, the car would bog alot more. Now its a little better. But like all turbo chargered cars, mashing the pedal all the way down doesn't help it get up and go, you have to ease into it. Out of first gear, i spin the clutch a bit to get the turbo spooled. That seems to work best for me. Please post your experiences.

My experience..
Either I have to keeps the revs high around 2000 rpm and feather the clutch out or start at a snails pace, keep rpm's about 1200. I think part of it is the rotating mass of the motor (very low), quattro (power robbing) and the low amount of torque it produces at 1000rpms. The beauty of 1.8t. I know if I am having a bad day I feel sorry for my wife because I get more jerky when shifting. I must say I really like this motor though. At about 3200 rpms this motor starts to come alive and keeps going until 7000. This motor seems to be getting looser and looser by the day. Side note it seems to be getting a little louder to? hmm not sure why, valve train loosening up? I cannot imagine how much fun a chip would be.
This is all my opinion though and the various cars I have driven.

I use the same approach as you...been wondering if an aftermarket clutch would make a difference?
Not available for the new A4 yet and not cheap (see link).
Probably overkill for someone like me who only plans to upgrade the chip and exhaust, but there's also a nice weight reduction.
I've noticed that there doesn't seem to be any aftermarket clutches for the 2000+ A4's...perhaps due to Audi's switch to drive-by-wire?<ul><li><a href="http://www.awe-tuning.com/pages/shared/part_detail.cfm?PMaI=1&PMoI=1&PEI=2&PP =a4_18t_drivetrain.cfm&PPT=Drivetrain&IL=A WEClutchKit">AWE Clutch Kit</a></li></ul>

Just make sure your adding more throttle when your letting out the clutch
best rpms to launch good at is 3500-4000 rpms. RPM's should stay right at that point and then start rising.
What I do is blip the throttle around 3,000 rpms till I am ready to launch, then when I get ready to drop the clutch I start going WOT and let out the clutch at 4000 rpm's.
