will the leather tear easily?
I might be getting a dog in the next couple weeks and I have begun to think of all the different scenarios to prepare myself and the only thing i have trouble envisioning is a 35 - 40 lb dog in my back seat tearing up my seats? Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated....TIA

our dog rides in a crate.
Jack Russell Terrier, about 12 pounds - not large. In addition to concerns about scratches and scuffs, it's a good idea to keep your pet secured in a crate for safety: stopping short or an accident will turn a pet into an interior projectile - in many accidents, pets suffer injuries when people with seatbelts do not.
You can find some cool pet supplies for traveling with your dog at JB Pet Supply. I also like some of the car-blankets with nylon backing and adjustable straps for the back seat that you can get from Orvis/LL Bean/Lands End, etc.

http://www.jbpet.com</a

avant...maybe...my car...no way...
Our family used to have a a6 2.8 avant and we tossed the dogs in the back (it had a neat screen feature so they wouldn't jump the seats) and it worked out fine. The back of the a6 got completely destroyed from the hair, dirt, scratches, scuff marks, entrance and exit marks from the dogs..etc... Basically, the rear of the car was a complete mess. We had 1 english cocker spaniel and 1 english springer spaniel, so they like the water and tend to bring all the mud back with them. Thinking back, i can't believe we sold the car with all that crud in the back
as for my car, i would NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER let any animal (non-human, however there are some humans that may not enter my car too ) inside my car, no matter what the circumstances. I don't even allow food or drink at all! maybe some water, but that's it! So that's my story.

My friend's chocolate lab I was dog sitting for was fine in the back seat,
just cover everything in a bedsheet and open the windows. However, I did make sure his mouth was clean as you don't want to get any muddy slobber on the headliner.
