Default I was beat by a Grand Am...

My wife and I were picking things up for Easter this afternoon and to make the trip more exciting we got in to a little race.
The competition a white rusty, manual transmission, bad tint job, Pontiac Grand Am (maybe a early 90's late 80's?).
The stop light went green, I rolled off like nothing was happening, then I heard his rpm's rise and I put it to the floor. His Grand Am had a modified exhuast, I think he got it at a junkyard, it was very loud. Anyways, I start competeting at 5 mph. It was vert even the entire way, until 50 mph then he actually started to pull on me so I slowed down (I didn't want to go over the speed limit) :-( I can't beleive it. APR need help! I knew I should have splurged and bought the S4.

Default The bottom line ...Audi needs to improve these engines..a Neon will dust you!

I have repeated this many time, but Audi should just buy the Nissan 3.5 litre V6 and become the world leader. The current Audi engines are anemic and the Audi engineers use the variable camshaft timing, variable intake mainfolds, and other exotic stuff while Jap and US engines without the toys just bolow the doors off the Audi's!

I personally don't race light to light anymore with Neons just to keep my body chemistry from getting out of wack! I just keep saying the A4 is more of just a cruiser sedan...

Default Yes, this thing was ugly and a peice of crap, but ...

We all know the 1.8 isn't going to beat any records but man-o-man. Mine seems to run out of power in third gear around 4000 rpm.

Default Remember this the next time you get smoked

Your A4 is heavy and under-powered, compared to:

Volvo S60 (non-turbo): 3146 lb/ 168hp = 18.7 lb/hp
Acura TL (not type S): 3494/225 = 15.5 lb/hp
BMW 325: 3219/184 = 17.5 lb/hp
Lexus IS 300: 3255/215 = 15.1 lb/hp
Maxima SE: 3224/255 = 12.6 lb/hp
Mercedes C230 Coupe: 3305/192 = 17.2 lb/hp

Audi A4 1.8T Quattro: 3550/170 = 20.9 lb/hp.

All models are manual transmission except TL. Data from Edmunds.

The A4 with a 255 Nissan 3.5 L V6 would be 13.9 lbs/hp...YES!

Default American cars are made for the straight-line...

but let him follow you through the series of hairpins like those near my place, and I'm sure he'd give up!
