I got a Wett chip installed in my manual 1.8 TQ at Autobraun in Edmonton, Canada (more)
I drove from Calgary to Edmonton for the install on Saturday. Lots more power smoothly delivered. Big difference off the line and passing on 2 lane highways. I now feel like this is a very respectably powered car.
Vincent Braun's shop (which seemed mostly to be a performance part warehouse) is very neat and well organized. Vincent himself certainly appears to know his stuff and is pleasant to deal with. Vincent tells me that he is gone to post pictures of how to remove the ECU on the 2002 A4 on his website. Guess who's A4 was the model for the pics.
I don't know why APR thought that their customers wouldn't be happy with a ~200 hp chip. Assuming the other ~200 hp chips are delivering similar performance, I can't imagine a "soft core" enthusiast being disappointed. Then again, it could be that the price of the mods necessary to correct the fuel delivery problem for a higher hp chip will not be that much more but I can't help but think its probably got to add at least another $150 USD to the price. Installing the required fuel mods may also be a deterrent for some.

Yes. APR & AMS felt that fuel mods were necessay for a more powerfull chip for the 2002 model.
I understand that Garret down graded their chip to around 200 hp becuase of some issues. Use the search engine if you want to learn more, there is lots of entertaining info on the debate.

I will report more later today on AMS/Abt chip progress.
In 190hp guise, w/o additional hardware, the car is too sluggish at low rpms. The guys have been trying to program some of that out of the system. Once boost is up, it is awesome !
The trick isto try and mirror what Abt has done, but with totally different cars from the what the Germans get. Frustrating to say the least !

Basically because Edmonton is relatively close to me. If I didn't like the looks of the shop and
wasn't comfortable with the installer I wouldn't have had it done. Other benefits are: (a)I didn't have to wrestle the ECU out (b) if something got screwed up with the chip it would be fixed right away (c)my car isn't out of commission for 2-3 days and (d) no worries about hassles with overnighting the ECU.
Canadian url is autobraun.com Wetterhauer.com (sp?) for the German site which has a link to the U.S.A. distributer.
