Provided that the M3 spoiler has been trimmed correctly on both edges and installed evenly, seeing it in person, it's hard to tell that it's an aftermarket part.
Just my opinion... and of course, I may be biased.

I was hoping that you would have missed this post!!! I had a very hard time
deciding between the Votex and M3 lip. I have seen one M3 lip on an 02 in person, but the place did not do a good job on cutting the spoiler. Did not make it all the way to the end of trunk.
The M3 lip on the 02's in the pics I have seen do look very good. Especially YOURS!!

I know what you're saying though... and I'm sure that a butchered job on the trimming of the spoiler would completely ruin the look of the hood.
I guess I was lucky and had it done by someone really good.
My advice to anyone thinking of getting the M3 spoiler is to get the trimming and painting done by EricPA's friend.
