Default Enfig MotorSports -- Blitzsafe w/ Power Upgrade?

I've noticed that Enfig has a new Blitzsafe+Power iPod interface on their website. It appears to be a standard Blitzsafe adapter hooked up to a power converter with a 3G iPod connector in the end. It seems like the "complete" single wire connection to an iPod.

However, looking at your pictures (and some of the discussion earlier in the thread), it doesn't look like this product will work with the ashtray mod because of bulky connector that would need to attach to the back of the dock.

Just to be sure, did you use the standard Blitzsafe interface, or did you go with the new/combo one?

If you went with the standard Blitzsafe interface, does the new one look like it would work with the ashtray mod?

Also, did you consider modifying the iPod dock rather than the ashtray?

Thanks for the detailed writeup

Default Standard Blitzsafe

I went with the standard blitzsafe. The powered blitzsafe is essentuially a standard blitzsafe adapter wired together with a Belkin iPod car adapter.

I bought a Griffin power adapter for <1/3 the cost of the difference. It plugs in to the back of the dock in the same way.

I will some time soon. Cut a small groove in the back of the ashtray to enable the connector for the power adapter to fit.

Modifiying the Dock
I did think about modifiying the dock.
I pulled it apart and decided that it could be changed. However I would rather not.
I wanted to keep the iPod mounted far forward in the ashtray so that it didn't come near the ashtray lid. Also even if the dock was only the iPod "seat" I don't think it would fit in a stock ashtray. The front of the ashtray is just not deep enough.

PS: I hope you find the instructions help. (Or at the least interesting).

Very good and clean install. i use the belkin cup holder with blitzsafe adapter in my A4 2002, it isnt the prettiest install but does the job.

Default What about power to the ipod?

Does anyone have any suggestions for having this setup with power to the ipod? Is there room in the ashtray area to fit a dock-style connector? It looks as though the regular 90 degree headphone jack is tight so I'd assume an ipod dock connector isn't an option?

Hey - I just came back to this thread.
I have power in there now too. I had to change things a bit.
The Audio cable, now comes up from the bottom of the ashtray, and the dock connector, fits partially in a hole cut in the back of the ashtray.

Well worth the effort though. Unfortunatly I didn't photo document that install.
