Default Just got car back from 15k service and

found out that per the notification that went out about the 502 oil standard, all Audi dealerships must use full synthetic oil for every service. I asked the service manager and they said they only use Castrol Synthetic now (I forgot to ask what weight).

Now for someone like me who really only cares that it is full synthetic oil and doesn't really care about much else (I live in So Cal mind you) I no longer have to bring my own oil to the dealership.

I'm curious if you have changed your mind about bringing your own oil in for service?

This question is primarily directed to those still on their free service for 50k but anyone who still gets service from dealerships can also chime in if you want.

Default Good question. Haven't made up my mind yet.

I always bring Mobil1 0W40 to the dealership for the 10k mile oil-changes. (I also change it myself at the 5k-mile marks with Mobil1 0W40.)

I'll likely keep bringing my Mobil1 to the dealer...

Default Just had my service at 15K yesterday

They used the Castro Synth 5w-30. At 5 and 10K I brought them Mobil1 0w-40.
I have no problem with the Castrol, and will not bring mine in anymore.

If you have a Turbo, my advice is to change at every 5K

Default If the service manual says every 10k why

would I need to bring in every 5k if you are using full synthetic oil? I've had several people tell me that sythetic is even good for 15-20k w/o any problems. I know that turbo engines need to be treated correctly but I wouldn't understand why they wouldn't recommend doing it at every 5k when that would be more of a conservative thing to do.

I general I think that every 5k with full synthetic is overkill unless you are totally abusing/racing your baby all the time.

I hear what you are saying but I'm not sold on doing it every 5k unless someone can specifically point to documentation as to why you should.

They should not be using regular oil at all!

You should bring in your letter and point out they are DUMBASSES and will get in trouble with AUDI!
