More 'Boom-Boom' for less 'Bling-Bling' in an '02 1.8T with Bose system...??
I'm trying to help a bud out with his Symphony II Bose system.
I've heard rumours of VAG codes and 'filters' on the trunk mounted sub... ...has anyone improved their system without resorting to aftermarket amps and subs?
Thanks.

I had found that you could change the sound slightly by recoding the head unit with a VAG-COM (more)
so that it used the non-Bose equalization settings instead of the Bose equalization settings. It still uses the Bose amp, etc., it just changes the head unit's internal equalization.
I liked it better with the Bose settings in the end, but some other members (ahem, Bob Petruska , liked it much more without them. Here is a link to his opinion about it, along with the codings I had found:

https://forums.audiworld.com/a4gen2/msgs/101511.phtml

It seems when I set the fader toward the back (with Bose) I get more signal to the sub-woofer.
It's like the sub-woofer is just treated as just another rear speaker from the perspective of the fader. In other words, the fader can be used as a kind of equalizer.

Dealers use Audi-provided diagnostic equipment. But yes, they can access the radio and all other(m)
modules without a problem. I'm not sure you would be able to convince a dealer to change your radio coding, though!
