Moving Headunit to glovebox

Moving Headunit to glovebox
I'm going to install a carputer this winter with DVD, Nav, touchscreen and the works. I was just wondering if anyone could offer help in moving the headunit to the glovebox. How hard is it? Just a matter of moving the harness? or will I have to "lengthen" a lot of wires with splices? If you do have to add extensions to the harness, does this affect sound quality? Thanks in advance.

I've done extensive work with this in my car....
I'll post some pics of what i did when i get home, but for now I can tell you that I replaced the stock headunit with an 8" kenwood touchscreen and then an alpine head unit and xbox all mounted in the glove box.
The glove box is fairly simple if you've ever installed a headunit before. The spot for it is pretty much exactly the right size (length and width) but not so for the depth, I had to make quite a few cuts in the back of the glovebox to get it all to fight and a few brackets to hold things in place.
As far as wiring goes everything is pretty much long enough but you still have to cut all the ends and rewire it for your headunit and whatever else you do.
The most difficult and tedious job was with the screen in the dash. I had to cut back a lot of metal, remove the little cup holder and emergency lights and move it all elsewhere.
I will post some pics and more details when i'm home this afternoon.

im going to be doiong the exact same thing...(m)
my issue currently is where to mount the computer...
there are 2 options as i see it: building it into a case, which means that it would have to go in the trunk. or setting up seperate components seperatly.
I think, from the pics amulet poseted a while back that our HU's fit in the glovebox, so if Jon5k says the wires were long enough, it shouldnt be a problem. I had this same concern, and was actually going to post your question this weekend
Which motherboard are you thinking of and where were you going to put it? also, what are your plans for power? this has been my next biggest concern.
lets share notes....

Actually I think I'm going to use a laptop, mounted under the passy seat (m)
I wanna take out the storage bin and hook a bracket system up there. Another possibility would be mounting it in the trunk and since I have a modular DVD drive, fabricating a cable that would allow me to place the DVD drive under the front seat. If worst comes to worst, i might fabricate a small computer behind the dash like amulet03 did. If I do use the laptop though, I'm gonna install in inverter from the trunk power switch and run that up to the front.
I did a similar project with my friend's honda civic, custom dash piece with a 10.4 inch screen. It's sweet, but only an xbox setup and we had to relocate heating controls and he lost a heating vent. Plus his car is a mess, so the xbox just sits on the back seat which is always folded down. I want my install to look proppa
