Had some major problems with my A4 the last 2 days. At cold starts the engine will not idle, the engine shakes violently and then the revs just drop and the engine dies. If i give it gas and keep the RPMs up it will not die. After driving for 5-10 minutes the engine will be fine at stoplights until i turn the car off again.

I thought it was a coilpack but i got no CEL and I actually swapped the coils anyway, 2 at a time. Still same thing.

Talked to the dealer and they thought it was the battery or alternator. Took it to sears to check the battery and they tested and said its fine. Not sure if it could be the alternator. Anyway....

17698 - Coolant Temp Sensor at Radiator Outlet (G83): Signal too Small
P1290 - 002 - Lower Limit Exceeded - Intermittent
16891 - Idle Control System RPM: Higher than Expected.
P0507 - 001 - Upper Limit Exceeded - Intermittent
16684 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
P0300 - 001 - Upper Limit Exceeded - Intermittent
16687 - Cylinder 3: Misfire Detected
P0303 - 001 - Upper Limit Exceeded - Intermittent
16688 - Cylinder 4: Misfire Detected
P0304 - 008 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent

I don't know how long those were there so i cleared them and then made a 5 minute run and then found these only:

Anyone have an idea what the "Idle control" code means or what I might need to do to fix it. I didn't get the cylinder misfire again after the run. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

what year and what engine?? i am not sure where to look but we can use the car info.
