Need to put in more 12v power ports for cell / palm. any recs. on what fuse to use?
I don't want to hardwire, and as sometimes I take them out of the car. So i bought a Hardwire dual cig. lighter port to mount under armrest or somewhere else out of the way. I am looking for some recommendations on a good fuse to use so that it won't blow, and will also turn off with the car unlike the regular cig. lighter. I was thinking of using the heated seats wire.
TIA

doesn't shut off with car. unless someone knows of a relay that can be purchased
so i can use the power from the cig lighter, and then use another wire that turns on and off with the car to turn extra outlets on and off.

hmmm.....
there are several fuses that are ignition switched in the fuse box. pull your manual and go through the fuses (p. 289 i think). whatever you have in your car that you know turns off when the engine is off (i.e. sunroof) test with a voltmeter/tester to see if it's ignition switched. then, piggyback to that fuse (piggyback can be purchased at radioshack). if you have a sedan, i believe there is an ignition-switched fuse for the rear windshield wiper of the avant that is vacant, so you might want to look for that.
how many amps do your appliances draw? if it's a high-amp deal, you may be better off skipping the fuse box and going directly to the power distribution box under the dash. it's not ignition switched, but it is safer and more reliable for wiring. you could install a switch to kill power to your devices at will...
