The new A4 s not so pretty
OK, I realize I am going to take a great deal of heat for this commentary, but I think it needs to be reported. The new A4 is sedate compared to the original. The side view is especially pudgy [the wheels look small} and the transition to the rear bumper is clumsy. The USA spec sport wheels look as if the lug nut holes are too close together. {I do like the new 16"s on the 3.0}.The interior while being larger is not nearly as beautiful as the original. It is more like the A6 only not as well resolved. The overall gesture of the dash pod is heavy.
I am sure the car is mechanically better but
Audi added features like the digital compass in the rrview mirror and dual climate control but has integrated them so poorly.
The new A4 looks to me like it was done by the second string, not by the original A4 team or those who did the current A6 and TT.
I think Audi missed the opportunity to create the new design reference point with the A4 being the high volume model for the entire line. As an owner of a current A4 I am going to wait for the third generation.

Opinions are like a$$holes....
everybody's got one. Now, why you posted yours here is beyond me. The people reading your post either own a gen 2 A4, are interested in one, or are just reading the forum. None of those categories care what you think about the new A4.

OK, well get ready to wait 5 years for generation 3.
I can't say I am "in love" with the new design -- the old one was somewhat more traditional.
But, it's attractive and I'm getting a lot of looks in my new one (and I don't mean the kind of looks people in an Aztek get).
Still, it's striking and from the front and rear, very nice....

I love this stuff.
Let's take a walk down memory lane.

Yes, the first gen A4 is a handsome car but I would not call it's shape original. The front and side of the car shares a lot of styling cues with the the 80/90. The rear shares styling cues with the 100. How sedate.
Here is a funny thing. The A4 was introduced in 1996 to replace the 80/90 series. When comparing the 80/90 to the A4, the A4 sure does look more bulky/fat. That is the same thing a lot of people have said when comparing the 2nd gen car to the 1st gen car. Hmm? I wonder if the 80/90 guys have been running around all these years saying how much more bulky/fat the A4 is compared to their cars?

So being that this was your very first post...
I assume you felt the need to join our little community just so you could come into the '02 forum and bash the new design? Have trouble making friends?
Truth Seeker......maybe Enemy Seeker would be more fitting.
