New owners: you need a tire gauge (more)
I'm not affiliated with these folks but this is a great deal. Every owner needs a gauge. Look at this http://www.getagauge.com/ and get the EZ-Air. Only 20 bucks! I bought one. Well made, Works great, Very classy. Comes with a leatherette case too. Don't tell the BMW people.

True, and seriously...
The type tire gauge most of us have used for years is the 'pencil' type with the sliding scale. Compact, economical, and convenient, but not necessarily accurate. Any reputable automotive salesman will tell you that the type you show in your pic below (circular dial w/ flexible tube) is the most accurate of all. This is expecially true for folks who have performance tires on their cars where accurate tire pressure is critical for safety. And also tread life for an already skimpy period for the low sidewall profilers. And last but not least, try to check your tires when they're cold (haven't been driven for a couple of hours minimum). BUT, you can check them when they're hot (within 5 minutes of stopping after you have driven a minimum of 5 miles at 60+ mph) by setting the pressure to exactly 4 lbs. over desired cold tire reading. If your tires need 36 psi cold, simply set them at 40 psi hot.
