As it stands Turbo, the dealer gave a faulty compression test. The dealer told me the check engine light on steady was probably OK. So any codes that dealer is giving I am not going to trust. Period. It's now an insurance issue because the car started shuddering exactly after I hit that pothole. Probably bent the rims. Dealer didn't bother to look at it. They fixed the brakes, suspension links and the coolant sensor and them told me I need a new engine. If the shop forman (so they said) looked over the car and couldn't get the compression test right.... Plus when I picked up the car from the dealer the windows no longer worked. Timeline: check engine light on, hit pothole, started shuddering immediately. Engine compression FINE. Smelly spark plugs. * them for trying to sell me an $8000 used engine with 107,000 mi on it. I'll know what's up next week from the shop that knows how to run a compression test

I have to say, that was one lame dealer. It takes about 1 minute for a quick read of the code(s) that cause the CEL to come on. He definitely should have told you what they were.

To make your car a little bit less mysterious to you, you can buy a code reader for maybe $30,or you can get what is called VAGCOM software that works with a laptop for a couple of hundred, or you can get an advanced code reader that works like VAGCOM for a hundred.

You should have a list of the pressures in each cylinder from the second test. Don't settle for "they're ok."
