Default No more front plate :o)

While having my front grill and hood replaced (thanks to a parking lot hit and run *&%#@~!#^), I inquired about having those damn front plate holes filled and painted as the bumper needed repainting anyway. My dealer received my car from out-of-state and little did I know about the drilling....wtf?

After a week of driving a Volvo S40 loaner :-( (which only provided more feedback of A4's awesomeness), my A4 is back and is in new condition once again. The front plate holes were patched and repainted - flawless.

Good idea. I should do the same thing too. My 2 month old car with no license plates is currently in the shop for a bumper/fender/headlight replacement, thanks to a wreckless uninsured motorist. I might was well have them fill in the license plate holes too.

Default I was close do having them done - but the money is needed elsewhere for now.

They first quoted me $800 to have it done - which included a discount since the front bumper was getting painted anyway (thus do the lower bumper for free). After some looking, they discovered that the door pieces on the 03s are easily removable (and thus didn't need to be replaced like on the 02s) - that lowered the price to ~$675.

I've never seen painted lowers in person - only pics here on AW - other than the S4 at the NAIAS. I know it would look great - but other options exist: body kits, lowering, rear spoiler, etc caused me to second guess the painted lowers and consider other options. Not to mention I chipped the car and SSed the trans @ 300 miles. I don't think the car remembers ever being stock.

SPP fogs this weekend for sure.

Next: perhaps an APR snub mount.

p.s. Wife's Explorer (SUV, I know, don't get me started) was keyed this week. I don't think the insurance folks are happy with us. Oh well, they can spend our money on us for a change.

Where'd you have that done? I went to one shop and they said I'd need a new bumper... didn't want to mess with that, so I've put it off waiting for the inevitable accident to occur.

What did they use to fill the bumper?

Default High end collision shop - they work on MBs, BMWs, Audis, etc.

They told me it was a newer method - fiberglass mesh with an extruded plastic restin fills the hole.

My dealership's bump-shop wanted to replace the bumber $$$. So, check around. Put in a call to a MB or BMW dealership to see where they might recommend.
