Which is the same, in reverse. We could hammer out a better list in 2 minutes.

Default GC's the only 0w-30 that ever met the VW specs.30 weight HT/HS>3.5cP@+150c is the starting point

AMSoil 0w-30 would make the spec if tested, it only has a HT/HS of 3.4cP though. Not a big deal, most 30s are 2.9. A good oil has a high HT/HS +150 vs it's +100c visc. GC is 12cSt, a 30 weight making 3.5cP at +150c, Mobil 1 0w-40 needs a 14cSt 40 weight to make the same HT/HS and then it thins in use. Not as good, imo. Don't infer anything about 0w-30 being "banned" like Mike did. It's just that, an inference...that we all make, but GC is the ONLY 0w-30 meeting spec. My blanket response is "call Castrol". I think they would clear it up, lol. Screw AoA.

Default Also add Pennzoil Platinum Euro 5w-40. Acura HT-06 spec for turbo RDX approves...

Mobil 1 5w-30 and Pennzoil Platinum 5w-30. imo, those oils are ok for 1.8t if it's not running hot.

Default Cool info. ...

The specs you posted confirms the GC 0w-30 has the viscosity at higher temps without lots of vi additives. GC therefore resists viscosity break down from shear better than M1, a main reason, among others, that I prefer it over M1 0w-40

Default I dont disagree that GC is great. But, now for all newer cars Audi specs only three viscosities...

as approved for use in the Audi car. It specs 5w-40, 0w-40, and 5w-30 oils that ALSO meet VW502. I dont necessarily agree with the move and dont doubt they will change it as they test for approval other viscosities, but for any newer Audi you're stuck with the above three viscosities to be in compliance. Not that they will be able to know unless you tell them.

Oh, and since this is the B6 forum, the older manuals should allow for a VW502 oil in any viscosity so you should be "grandfathered" in using that GC. I couldnt use it in my B7 car though as stated in the manual I do use it in my B6 S4 though as it is permitted in the warranty manual. In fact, funny enough the old S4 manual does not even require VW502 rated oils. It specs any API SJ or an ACEA A2 or A3. It also specs 0w-30, 5w-30 or 5w-40. Now if I had the identical engine B7 S4, I wouldnt be allowed to use it. The newer cars apec VW502 in the manual and only 5w-30, 0w-40 and 5w-40..stupid as it is.

Newer Audi car manual...

Default You are correct. There is a NA specific oil list that is not on the AoA site...

It too has been revised over 5 times now.

Default VW 502 sequence doesn't specify +100c visc or w-rating, rather +150c HT/HS visc >3.5cP, which GC-

...dutifully meets. Thinking 0w-30 is "diss"-allowed is like saying the oil spec engineers are overruled by A0A customer service dorks in some cubicle. 0w-30 can and does meet VW 502, end of story.

Default Castrols 0W-30....

Castrol SYNTEC 0W-30 European Formula is engineered to meet the Mercedes Benz 229.5 specification. The 0W-30 viscosity grade is ideal for winter conditions where low temperature pumpability is required. A unique, low-temperature formulation provides exceptional pumpability in cold weather and allows for unaided engine starts down to -40°F. Exceeds all car and light truck manufacturer's warranty requirements for the protection of gasoline, diesel and turbocharged engines where API SL, SJ, SH, CF or CD is recommended. Exceeds European ACEA: A3, B3, B4; VW 502 00, 505 00, 503 01; MB 229.1, 229.3, 229.5; BMW LL-01; GM-LL-A-025, GM-LL-B-025 and the engine protection requirements of ILSAC GF-3 for API Certified Gasoline Engine Oils.
