Default Radio reception

I have a 2002 A4 3.0 with Bose stereo. Ever since we got the car, we've noticed the radio reception is not as good as our other Audi (a 2000 S4 with Bose). The reception in Manhattan is ok, but as we drive just north of the city to Westchester, the reception starts to have a hint of static. It's not bad static, just static on the edges. In fact the static starts only about 5 miles north of midtown. I've tried setting the mode to DX and that makes no difference. The dealer has not been able to find any faults with the stereo. They can't reproduce the static because of course they only test it in the city. Anyone have any ideas about this? Any reason this stereo's reception would not be as good as my 2000 S4?

By the way, CD's sound fine.

Maybe because the antenna is integrated into the rear glass?

Do you have tint? That will reduce the reception range.

Get use to it. The reception range with the Bose sucks!

Definitely. If you care about reception, install an external antenna.

Interesting. So it sounds like I'm not alone. I'm thinking about getting XM. But in the meantime, would anyone recommend a particular external antenna? Any pictures of the installation?

Go XM! (stock is up 74% in the last month, btw. New wheels for everyone!)

Bimmers have no problem with reception. My parents' 740 IL works great with the integrated ant.
