to hold it until its completely open or closed. I don't get it. sometimes my roof only needs a touch and it goes up or down automatically, other times I need to hold it??

One push/pull to tilt open/close all the way. Hold it and release if you want it to stop partially.

That's what I thought but it stops when I release it. Am I holding it too long?
