Default Repairs

Hey guys, I am a girl that doedn't know much about cars and the price of repairs. I took my car in the other day and had them run a diagnostic to tell me what needs to be replaced in the next year. They gave me estimates on all the repairs, but I want to make sure that I am not being taken just cause I am a girl. Can anyone tell me if these are reasonable? The price is parts and labor
Valve Cover Gasket: $132
Spark Plugs: $59
Timing Belt and Water pump: $385
Front Brake Pads and Brake fluid flush: $225
Front Suspension Arm: $125
If anyone could give me some insight, I would really appreciate it!!
Thanks

Default sounds like a ripoff

are you covered by warranty?

from what you described, it seemed that the diagnostic shop knows how to predict mechanical failures, that rings the BS detector.

Timing Belt and Water pump: $385 --> definitely ripoff, timing belt need not be changed unless you hit 60000 miles.

Front Brake Pads and Brake fluid flush: $225--> brake pads cost from 30 to 100(for a good one). brake fluid flush can be done at jiffy lube(although I don't recommend it) for like 30.

well just try another diagnostic bodyshop/dealer and see what happens.

Default Not bad prices at all if it really needs that...

Looks like they are charging you about a half hour labor for plugs (sure you could do it yourself in 20 minutes but no one will charge you less than a half hour labor). Looks like an hour on the valve cover gasket. More than fair. That price on the timing belt is unbelievably low. Dealerships charge about $1500 and a good independent charges about $750-$800 so I wonder if they didnt misquote you or mean the serpentine belt. If that is the actual quote and it is a good shop with references i'd hit that in a heartbeat before they realize what they have done. Timing belt and water pump with new tensioner and rollers should always be replaced at the same time and 60K miles is the mark to do it by on a 1.8T. Maybe 80K on the v6. Make sure they give you your old parts as that seems like an awfully low price. Brake pads run about $100 for a cheap set of all four. Front pads are about $50 and probably an extra $75 for a fluid flush and install is all I would want to pay so that may be a tad high. The control arm is a great price as well. What year and model car? cheers! Mike

Default Agreed. Sans the Timing Belt/Water Pump, the prices don't seem too unreasonable

$385 is really low for TB/water pump. Literally, just last week, I paid that much to get the timing belt, water pump, camshaft seals, crankshaft seals, tensioner, and valve cover gasket replaced on my 95 Civic. The best quote I've seen on an Audi is about $850 for that work.

Default What year and model is your car......

How many miles do you have on your car. If it is B6 manual says spark plug change at 4y/40k miles, price quoted seems ok. Timing belt is done at 60k along with water pump....The price looks low. It is labor intensive. You can check prices on ECS tuning for the whole kit.
As far as valve cover gasket, is it leaking. Only than should be replaced since manual does not show change interval. Don't know about the rest.

Thanks for all the help! Actually, my car is in great shape for the mileage and the year-it is an A-4 quattro 1.8T and it has about 120K miles on it. I appreciate all your input!!!
