salesman bull in the GTA
i was at queensway vw/audi today after deciding i was going to buy a A4Q3.0. The sales guy immediately jumped out and told me that he could go with 2% off msrp ($1000 off a $50K cdn car) but no more as all the dealers in the Toronto area had an "arrangement" that they would not go lower and that this "arrangement" had been in place for the last 6 weeks.
Anyhow, as one might imagine i got up as the waft of bovine excrement filled the office and left. I am going to go to one or two of the other dealers to see what sort of story they have. What made this story even more ridiculous was that this was on a remaining '02 which with the 03 coming in the next few months one would assume they would be trying to get rid of.
Anybody out there from GTA have a story that would refute this line? I am pretty much not going to bother with this dealership or salesman but would like to let his mgr know that he lost a sale and why.

Have to admit...
...while shopping around for my A4 in Vancouver, I was surprise to find that ALL the local dealers knocked the EXACT same amount of MSRP - $1500. In the end I went with the dealer who could deliver the order I wanted the quickest.

Re: Salesman was correct...welcome to capitalism
this really blows me away....i looked at jagX3.0 and merc C320, they were both knocking prox 3K off before i even mentioned pricing. Are these dealer trying to force me into another car? Still wanting the audi i really don't see a reason not to wait out for a '03 seeing as there is no financial incentive to buying a '02 now. I don't have to get a car immediately and unless there is an incentive on the 02 i am hardly going to take a hit on the resale with a car that sounds like a year older than it has to be (so to speak). On top of this the salesman was frankly rude and completely failed to listen to me, he even was nuts enough to try to sell me into a jetta GLI when i was talking 3.0Q.....huh?

Re: Have to admit...
I'm in Vancouver and looking into getting an A4 1.8T with SP and SR too. (I just did a search for what you drive...) Where did you end up getting your car? Did it seem like they were willing to knock off more if you got more options or an 3.0? Thanks.
BTW, nice sig....

Queensway "refused to sell me" 2 cars on their lot (one a VW)
One was a year-old Passat 4MOTION that had been sitting there collecting dust.
2 year warranty instead of 4...a year old physically...last model year (resale)...worse lease financing rate...not the exact colour I wanted, but I could live with it.
Bottom-line, the car would cost me more per month than buying an '02 with the same options. They wouldn't deal even under those circumstances. I understood why the car was still sitting there.
Same bs when it came time to price-out my A4.
Good-bye Queensway.
I bought from Bramgate...but before this convenient arrangement came into play.
