Default Since you guys can now chip..please explain something to me.

I was following the issues in the beginning with the tuners arguing over what could and couldn't be done. So they all have, or just one or two, have gotten around the issue of not enogh fuel? Was there never an issue then? Is there something mechanical that had to be added to the car? And the chastity belt you speak of..something Audi installed to stop you from pulling your ECU? TIA.

Default Explanations...

Pretty much every tuner has a chip producing power under 215 hp.

APR claims that with their new FPR (aka "The Fuel Mod") their chip will produce even more power.

The issue was "Can decent gains be achieved with a chip without a modification to the fuel delivery?"

Default Actually, to be a tad more accurate...

APR, ABT, and MTM do not feel you can chip "safely", above 195hp, unless you make a fuel modification.

GIAC, Neuspeed, Upsolute, and Wett disagree, and continue to sell chips beyond 195hp, wihtout any fuel mods. So far...no cars have blown up. ;-)

Last I've heard, GIAC is claiming the hp bragging rights @ 210hp/245 lb-ft. (higher number dynos on the GIAC website are for a version of the chip that they stopped selling months ago, due to vibration issues). Meanwhile, Wett holds the torque trophy, with claims of 205hp/250 lb-ft.

Supposedly, until APR's fuel mod is complete, they will offer a "safe" chip that peaks at 195hp. However, neither the "safe" chip or the full chip/fuel-mod combo (reportedly good for 218hp) have seen the light of day on the open market :-)

As for the chastity belt...it is indeed a device that AoA is using to try to deter chipping. They've also made it difficult to buy a spare ECU.

On again, off again. AoA must wait for Germany to approve.

Default slight addition to other's good explaination

I have to say in my OPINION I think the fuel thing is a hoax.. I mean Im basing this on my gut feeling and what I have read here and elsewhere about the various tuners but it seems to me that maybe some companies which I wont name were late or cant break the new codes in the 02 ecu so they created this fuel issue to try to buy time..
as for the chastidy belt.. it exists on most 02's not all BUT I heard from a reputable source (my tech) that it is an RF shield for the ECU not just to prevent tampering..so I woulnt just strip it off if I were you.. atleast get the proper screws and replace it after chipping =)
