Default sludge and DIY oil change

with the whole issue on sludge and 8 year guarenttee if oil changed properly.....if I DIY my oil - am I still covered? I guess I should save receipts, proof of purchase for oil? Do I have to only use Audi oil filters? Just hate them to say "sorry, it wasn't changed at the dealer, you're screwed".
thoughts?
thx

No, you are not covered if you DIY.

Default If you cannot prove your oil changes

you might be "screwed". However, it is hard to prove an oil chg you did yourself, unless you saved the recipts.

Default just called AOA

they say it has to be thru a dealer or at a liscenced mechanic, every 10k. But since I change it every 5k - I asked if I could do it at 55k, dealer at 60k, me at 65k, 70k dealer, and alternating....that confused them. but I think it'll be good enough. Seems that they should give free oil changes since they are warrentying for 8 years....

Default I think your alternating 5 and 5 is fine....m...

I have a Certified Used car, so that's what I plan on doing after the initial 50K warranty is over and maintenance is on me. If I have someone "official" do the 10k changes and stamp my book, I can do the alternating 5K change myself, and the net result isn't too costly, and keeps all records in shape in case something ugly happens.

Why should they be free?

Default Guarentee and Warranty are 2 different things.

That would be first. Secondly, your maintnances are covered under Audi Advantage, which is a different thing than Audi Warranty. At some point you need to take responsibility for maintaining your vehicle.

Default Thoughts...

Audi covers the oil changes every 10K miles. If you want to change the oil every 5K (like I do), then it's $47.00. Even if you drive 20K miles/year, that's only $94.00/year for the first 4 years, then $188.00/year for the next 4. So you spend a total of $1128.00 for 8 years of oil changes. Assuming you buy a car from another manufacturer, and that they don't cover the oil changes, you're going to pay about $25.00/oil change and change it every 3000 miles (most non-German manufacturers recommend this I believe). Anyway, you're going to do 53 oil changes over 8 years which amounts to $1325.00. I think $1128 is a small price to pay over 8 years for a guarantee against oil sludge...
