That's not true. You do not have to replace the whole arm. You can buy just the bushing.

Will be working on my 2009 Audi A4 2.0T Avant Quattro
I am buying 4 Lemforder bushing for the both side front upper control arms $11 each x 4 = $44
Also, getting 2 febi bushing for the main lower $9 x 2 = $18
Plus getting 2 sway bar bushing $3 x 2 = $6
Then getting a loaner for a ball joint / bushing press + kit from autozone = Free
Total $68 + my time

Thanks OP for posting in such great details. Couldnt find any post replicating noise by pushing car up/down (this is same in my case). I believe it to be upper control arm bushing. Will report back when done in a wk or 2.

Other source of noise might be welds associated with the subframe assembly

Not true, I bought them for a B7 from ECS Tuning and replaced all the bushes. Local mech pressed the big ones in for $20, the rest I pressed in with a bolt and sockets.

No way it cost more, it was hundreds cheaper and that included 90 odd dollars freight to Australia.

Maybe this will be the summer that the control arms get replaced. Fine during 3 seasons, at about 85° they groan, squeak and generally make embarrassing noises. I knew it was bad, but last summer I rolled down my window, and omg it was loud!
