Starting Problem
I have '02 Audi A4 2.0 Sport, Auto/tiptronic with 36k miles on it. I have never had any problems with it until a few weeks ago. One wet morning it wouldnt start. The car would run through its self check and when turning the igntion the car would tick but wouldnt fire up.
The Audi dealer said it was the battery and replaced it, they also cleared numerous ESP/ABS light faults, appartently also caused by the dying battery.
48hrs after getting the car back it refused to start then after 30mins trying it eventually started, ran for 2 days then refused to start again.
Audi have now had my car for over a week and can not repeat the problem at start up and can not find any fault!
So do i just throw it away?
I have read something about the ECU compartment, I have an iffy drivers side jet washer (it dribbles), if there was a leak there would that effect it the ECU and would that prevent audi finding the problem?
Otherwise the only commen factor is that my car is parked on a slope overnight!!!

Re: The ECU compartment cover must be removed and the compartment visually examined...
thanks, i am right in thinking that if there was water in there it would behave as described, the ticking but not firing?

Re: It's not predicable, could cause various strange symptoms, no pattern to it....

Right i'm off to bed 12.30am in the UK.
I will let you know if you managed to solve the problem in 15mins unstead of audi's 2 weeks!
