Structural Defect?

Structural Defect?
Strangest thing. This is my 2nd winter with my 2002 3.0. When I get in the car after it's been parked outside in freezing weather, I'll often hear a loud "thunk" within a minute after I close the door. Best way I can describe it is that it sounds just like a snowball hitting the roof or side window. Only happens once - never when I'm on the road. Car feels perfectly solid under all circumstances. No obvious visible defects inside or out. Fit and finish perfect. Never happened last winter. Not overly concerned, but has anyone else noted anything similar? Any theories as to possible sources for this sound?
