Default Test drove AMS' car today with ABT Coil Overs. All I can say is; Incredible ride for CO's!!!

And it was dropped with the fender at the tire.

I could not believe how comfortable the ride was with these CO's. I had concerns with using CO's on mine after having the experience with KW V2 CO's on my '00 Beetle 1.8t. But this was just amazing. If it was a blind test, I would have sworn that it was a Sport Kit. All my CO fears have just vanished. This car rides so smooth on them.
I took it for a good ride on the 405 and on the local streets; fast, abrubt lane changes, hard cornering,...etc. And I was grinning the whole time. I just could not beleive this car was on CO's. Very impressed by how nice it rode. Almost like stock, w/o all the dipping, rolling and bobbing up and down. Much softer then the other CO's and far more forgiving on the freeway. I guess the car design has some part in it- but these ABT CO's were great. Even with their 19" (35mm offset) wheels; it did not feel harsh, or jarring or rattling with bumps on the road and I encountered no rubbing. I hit some bad areas on the freeway and it was nothing close to what my other car feels like. This was almost total relaxation compared to that. Trust me. The last thing I want to do is ruin the ride of my new A4. I also have 19's, so this is important. But I just can't get over how nice it drove on these CO's. This is too good to be true.

I think I am 99% decided on these. The only other ones out there are KW's and H&R. (ABT had KW make theirs, but they are built to ABT R&D specs for this app).

Default By being a very special person : )

No. I just called and made an appointment to drive it. It was loaned out to a customer, so it took a while to schedule. Just call and speak with Steven.

But believe me; the ride was SCHWWEEEET!

Default Yeah. I had considered them as well, but was more interested in their Cup Kit at first and

then their new PCS CO's (fully adjustable w/ dampening). But the Cup Kit is 4-6 weeks away still and the PCS CO's are not expected until next year! But for street purposes, I realize having all that adjustability is not always warranted (like I'll just pull over, into the freeway pitstop, and make a quick adjustment by pulling out the rear shock and adjusting it....).
These CO's without dampening adjustment are great. Spec'd just right for the ride.

But now that I have experienced it; I can say first hand how good it is.

Default My vote would be for the H&R c/o's if you're going that route

like Khukwgn mentioned you'd. C/O's are surprisingly a nice ride.

Default Why H&R CO's over ABT CO's? Have you tested ABT CO's?

H&R's CO's are probably quite similar to ABT's CO's I would guess. But without driving the same car with each one, it would be hard to negate one of them simply because you chose the other. There is also KW's CO's, which I have heard are also very nice.
"Rich_W" posted last week about his H&R Coil Overs and had issues with rubbing right away. (I think he said that his rear wheel rubbed with the CO's all the way up. He had 19's with a 35mm offset). Not sure exactly what the problem was. But yes, I thnk H&R is a very reputable brand and maker of fine suspension products. I like the look of them (black & silver) too. I have not decided yet. it is just after riding in their '02 with the ABT CO's, I was very impressed. if I choose another and for some reason the ride is not as good... well, I think you know.

Default well funny that you say that but it's been rumored that Abt has

H&R builds the c/o's for Abt. considering the fact that when i bought an abt muffler for my turbo golf it was a rebadged Sebring muffler w/ the Abt logo on the tips.

don't get me wrong i'm sure the Abt c/o's ride great but i've driven an H&R Equipped b6 and the ride is PLUSH...probably the similar to the Abt. Price might be another issue as well, i haven't shopped Abt's prices on the c/o's but i know it's right up there w/ the H&R and wouldn't surprise me if it was more than the H&R because of the Abt name. Unless you're getting a hook up.

I'm leaving my options open as i'm due to get a ride in a KW Variant 2 c/o from bugzy and FK c/o's on Eric's (spp) b6. But if had only 2 choices H&R vs Abt...i'd go H&R

But then again this was my opinion as everyone else here has lots of so i'm putting in my .02. And as far as Rich's problem that was an isolated thing...i've had discussion w/ Rich and we concluded that what was sent to him was the wrong thing. But I'll leave that for rich to discuss because that's Rich's business so i wont speak for him. But from my experience w/ H&R have been very positive...both in my B5 A4 and my buddy's B6 A4. So take that FWIW

Default It is no rumor. AMS (Steven) told me flat out that KW builds them to ABT Specs (as I mentioned in my

orignal post). But even so, it is going to be different then KW's version since ABT has dibbs on their design for that one. ABT, like many others, have their products built by others in the business, who are established and make good products. So that fact does not bother me as much.
I was not disagreeing with you in any way as to imply H&R is bad or worse when compared to ABT or others. I was mainly just pointing out that from the ride itself w/ the ABT CO's, that I was very sold on them and the only way to compare would be to have the same car with each brand of CO in it.
Plush, is the same word that April commented about the ABT CO's.And now I can vouch for that myself. I was definitely surprised with the feel of the ride.

I think the H&R and KW CO's will be very good as well. It gets down to some fine separation with each one and may not be the most critical concern of a street driver as opposed to a track/race situation.

Regarding price: H&R CO's = $1430 from Tire Rack/$1499 from AWE.
ABT = $1450 from AMS.
KW V2 CO's = ?? Probably cheaper because I have had them and can get direct. But from my prior experience, I was not that pleased. (Especially when I needed new shocks for them and was told I would have to get new CO's because they changed them).

Where did you get you H&R CO's and what did you pay? Was it quattro app? And are they like this picture?

<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/50842/coilover_2.jpg">

So the H&amp;R and ABT are high on my list. FK CO's, I am not sure about. The company sure makes a lot of trashy light units and so many suspension kits. It sort of scares me. But they may indeed be good. Who knows. I guess Eric at SPP has changed his car once again. Used to be Intrax/Koni I thought.
