To keep your car from dimming headlights, and unevitably ruining either the battery and than the alternator. Right now I'm only running about 350 watts, which really isn't bad at all, the car runs fine, however, I'm upgrading my amp to 600 watts, and I'm wondering if I should upgrade my battery, with a yellowtop battery, or get a battery capacitator. My friend has a 1998 740il and hes running a 600 watt MTX amp and his lights still dim, so I don't want to have the same problem. What do you guys think??

Use a cap. Adding a batterry is recommended only if you play your stereo...

funny you mentioned that. I went to crobar (nyc club) last thursday...
and the music seemed to be unusually loud that night. It's now a week later and there is still a small buzz in my left ear. I could barely hear anything all of last weekend. Be careful folks!

well you need to learn rms and peak and actual power
if that mtx is 600 watts rms / 13volts thats 46 amps, which bass hits (hence the 1 farad cap) spiking even higher.
you can roach an alternator quick if its working at heavy rates or the battery if it can't handle it. or the amp if the power isn't sufficiently delivered to the amp.
what kinda crap you need to run? a single 25x2 fosgate punch pro old skool amp will knock the **** out of a single 10 to give you boom.
find some nice art series ppi amps for the rest.
quality of amp > power output. you should know that. same with speakers.
all that weight might push ya into the 4000lb range lol.

running just over 2k watts no cap, no problem.
Only slight interior dimming when turned up VERY loud. Bigger amps (with bigger wires) should run more efficiently, depends on impedence. Should ask the stereo forum.
