There is a shift lock that disengages when you press the brake....
You can hear a little click near the shifter as it engages and disengages (disengage by holding down the brake). There is also a little light that looks like a foot at the top left portion of the metal shift bezel (frame around the Tiptronic) The light should be on when it is locked, and go off when you hit the brake.
