Default True hp of A4 1.8t vs VW 1.8t

Does the Volkswagon 1.8t really have 10 more horses than the Audi 1.8t or is this strickly a marketing ploy?

Default I never found a technical answer for this question, however some claim the transverse...

mounted motor in the VWs make for a better exhaust flow thus the 10 hp gain.

Default yeah, their motor is transversal which allows for a different exhaust manifold.

= 10 more hp.

Default I'm with you. the best I have seen was someone posting about having a custom manifold made for their

A4 and getting a substantial gain for it.

Default

That, and I understood the VW is not a ULEV engine like the Audi, which accounts for some hp loss.

Default Yes. Projekt 8E got it.

The motors are set up differently, differences, besides tuning, allow for 10 more HP.

Default Yes it does - the transverse engine in ULEV and IS different

and runs different fueling and boost, amongst other internal differences including different piston rings. While the exhaust manifolds are different - it makes NO difference in HP rating since in fact the longitudenal layout has a straighter more efficient exhuast layout.
