Tool-wise...a torque wrench, breaker bar, and brake bleeder will help

Default B5 S4 Calipers are more bang for your buck

B6 S4 people are asking a lot for their brakes...but since there's a lot of B5 S4 brakes on the market, the price is considerably less. (qfrog from the B5 A4 forum has claimed that B6 S4 brakes price out reasonably from the dealer...I haven't researched this claim).

IIRC, the B5 S4 brakes are twin piston, two-pads per side, floating calipers with 12.6" rotors. While B6 S4 brakes are single piston, one-pad per side with 13.6" rotors.

The B5 S4 calipers take up more space and have caused clearance issues (i.e. I'm running 8mm spacers to clear)...but they're cheap and readily available. The B6 brakes will have a little more bling effect with the larger rotors...but I'm not sure if anyone has done a stopping/fade comparison b/w the two.

Either way, I'm sure you'd be happy with either setup. Just a matter of budget, wheels, and personal preference.

Default imho, to be safe - just go the 3.0 upgrade kit from ECS

do you really need big brakes?

usually, OE replacement pads do people just fine for street and the occasional track day...<ul><li><a href="http://www.ecstuning.com/stage/edpd/pagebuild_v2.cgi?make=Audi&amp;engine=1.8T&amp;mod el=B6%20A4&amp;submodel=Quattro&amp;category=Braki ng&amp;subcategory=Big%20Brake%20OEM">ECS OEM upgrade kits</a></li></ul>
