Default When the dealer tells you they need your car "overnight" - are they really working on it...

in the evening after closing? I have to drop my car off at the dealer on Tuesday because they are *supposedly* going to fix the immobilizer chips in my keys that are causing the cold start problems in the morning.

I just don't understand why it can't be done with a normal service appointment.

Default Well if there are cold starting problems, it's best to start up the car in the morning of next day.

In this case I believe it's justified.

Default I did ask the service advisor that, and he said that wasn't the reason (more)

he said that they needed it overnight because they had to reprogram the keys and whatever...

Oh well.

Default Reprogram the keys takes all night? Wow.

In your case I'm not sure of the reason to keep it overnight.

Default usually, it's....

that they didn't finish the work needed to be done that day and need to finish it the next day

or

they didn't get to your car at all and hopefully will get to it in the morning

or

they want to do more testing/diagnostics if the issue warrants it.

Probably in your case, the cold start they want to do in the morning when the car has been sitting overnight.
