Why? Should a wide body kit not be a bolt on kit rather a welded on custom made deal?

no not at all, although I personally would prefer custom fabrication, a bolt on can look nice

but IMO it only looks nice when it looks like it was built that way, flares that just jump out don't look good on a B6 IMO. I wish I had pics of a widebody B5 from the Audi expo last weekend, it was everything a widebody should be. It looked brilliant.

its not really widebody if its just fender flares

Those flares need to be half the size. A subtle flaring kind of like the RS6. In fact, it would be a nice mod for those who want to close the wheel gap, yet keep a bit of ground clearance.
