I am in the middle of changing mine.....
All you have to do is pull up on the leather boot at the corners. The plate will pop out, only help in by clips. Pull the boot up over ****. There is a metal clamp around the OEM ****. The bentley manual states that if you turn to right it will release and you can pull **** off. This has not worked for me. I have been trying to get it off without breaking the clamp. Everyone else seems to be just breaking clamp to get it off.

I just finished changing my shift ****....more
Once you get the cover off, pull up the boot over the ****. There is a metal ring/clip around plastic part of shift ****. Take a small pair of plyers or needle nose plyers. Find the part on the clip that ends. It is a circle but it is not connected, so there is a beginning and end part. Pry the end up over the little spikes on inner part of ring. The clamp will just pop off, then pull up on shift ****.

What kind of **** did you buy?
Before I bought the car, I wanted the MOMO AirLeather Race ****, but I was surprised to find that the stock shift **** looks almost just like it -- minus the black rubber 'collar'...
