Would you trade a 2003 A4 3.0 Quattro for a 2000 S4? (i can't decide)
I have a 2003 A4 3.0 Quattro 6spd with no problems and 63000 miles. It's black and I'm getting tired of keeping black clean and it has a door ding and rust spots on the hood from chipped paint that I don't feel like getting taken care of. It is paid off.
I have seen a few (I guess it'd be a B5) S4s around for $14000-16000. The ones I've looked at have about 70-75000 miles.
Pros I see:
Not losing any money in the trade and possibly gaining
I prefer a turbo and the extra power
Cons I see:
Mine has the factory body kit so I like the look of mine more
So, do I keep mine or go for the S4?

If I stay bone stock, should I still expect a few grand a year?
I'd honestly stay stock for about a year and then maybe get chipped. If I stay stock will I still be promised with issues? My A4 has been great and its been a year. I dont want to shell out cash all the time for 30 more hp.

i'd be weary to trade in a reliable 3.0 engine for any 7 yr old car
it seems like the main gripes you have are the color and rusting. with a 2000 S4, you will be having more headaches than that. and if you dont even want to take care of a paint problem, how likely are you going to want to be going to the shop every other month to get an engine problem fixed?
if wanting more power is your primary goal, then the S4 may be good. I say may b/c I drove a stock B5 S4 before and it only had more power than my 3.0 at higher revs. how often will you be driving at 5k+ rpm?
if you want a less headache car, then the S4 may be more of a disappointment than relief.

Is your 3.0 stock?... just want to compare apples to apples when you mention the S4 is only quicker at higher revs.

You pretty much made up my mind.
Thanks for the insight. I read up on the S4 issues but I didn't know it'd be that bad.
I'll just wait and get a coupe (what i really want is a corvette) when I dont have to worry about car pools.
