14-17 mpg around town in a 2.0T, what's going on???
Hi guys, I recently got a second hand A4 2.0T Quattro 6MT Avant with 13k miles on it. On the first tank I got 30mpg, that's all freeway while hauling cargo. Then it starts to get progressively worse: first 22mpg city/hwy combined, then recently it dropped to 17 and even 14mpg average on city driving.
What's going on? The tires are inflated to around 34psi, which should be standard. I noticed the drop to 17mpg when I started to use Redline SI-1 injector cleaner, but even that doesn't explain the low numbers like 22mpg.
Has anyone encountered this problem before? Should I have the dealer check it out since the car is still under warranty?

21mpg is what I average mixed city/hwy. Not what I expected coming from an S4 getting 21mpg.
Only difference is if I'm really gentle on the highway I can pull off the 30mpg which I couldn't in the S4.

It can vary a lot depending on how you drive
I've noticed that if I drive conservatively, I get mid 20's around town, and easily 30 on the highway. If I'm driving more spirited (I have an auto, so in "S" or using the tip for more power), I get in the mid to high teens in town - not much off your numbers.
BTW, I've also noticed that my ski rack makes a big difference (I don't have a fairing) - at least 5 MPG worse on the freeway.

I get ~20mpg with mixed city/highway driving
Actually more city than anything else. Stop and go traffic kills fuel mileage.
Also how are you calculating the mileage? Are you using what the trip computer tells you or are you actually figuring it out by the amount of gas you purchased and distance driven?
