Default 19" Wheels

You guys who have 19" wheels, can you or have you put a 19" in the spare tire well? I guess what I'm really asking is do you need to buy 5 tire/wheel combos?

Default You should... but most don't.

The overall diameter of the wheels and tires should be very close to the same... so a 19 should fit in the spare well.

But... Quattro is very sensitive to having matched wheels at each corner- different weights and more than a 4/32 difference in diameter can cause damage to the differential.

Default Agreed. But if yer on a budget, one should keep in mind that a spare should only be used for...

emergencies and thus very temporary...
A drive to the repair shop, tops.
If yer in agreement to that, then any physical differences between the spare & the other 3 wheels/tires is moot.

Default As soon as you wear down the tread on your tires the spare won't be the same anyways, so no point.

As Eddie Man said, you should only be using it to get to a shop to fix your flat. Your stock spare should be pretty close to the same rolling diameter as your 19's. Check out this Tire Size Calculator to see how close they are.

Yes, because a 19" spare wheel is very baller. BBS spare wheel = +20whp.

Agree Totally. I don't have a 5th wheel/tire for my winter set. :-)

Default 19" is like 1/2" taller

I ordered a set of 4 19"s and still have my factory spare. Once I get the wheels installed (waiting for coilovers from Germany) and I decide if I like the 19"s, then I plan on getting the spare 19". But I've never driven on 18"s, much less 19"s so I want to drive it before spending the additional money for a spare and make it one more wheel I need to sell/ship.
