Default Why change the oil yourself?

When the oil changes are included for the first 4 years?

Also, where did you get the snub and how much was it?

Nice write up by the way.

Its T40057 and it costs ~$115 . . . . so not worth it.

The free oil change intervals are best supplemented with extras on a chipped car.

Default Floor jack: Use an adapter like this

My friend turned me on to using a hockey puck with a groove carved in it corresponding to the lip at the jack point. It sits in the pad on the floor jack and works great.

Default Yep exactly as bhvrdr said. Come on 10k miles between oil changes? I think not.

I got the snub from ECS Tuning, just as it says.

Default Re: 2.0T oil change - suggested change in procedure

Changed my oil today and the write-up was a great help. One change in procedure I would suggest is to leave the oil cap on until AFTER you get the drain plug off and the oil draining neatly into your catch container. That way, the oil kind of dribbles out slowly for awhile and you can avoid the big gush that seems to go all over the place. Once you have drained out about a quart or so it will start surging a little as it has to suck air in at the drain. Since you now have your hands out of the way and your container centered, you can remove the cap and drain the rest of the oil quickly.

I just followed this write and just wanted to thank you for the DIY. Some things I would change:

Invest in the oil bucket like the one is in the picture rather than the conventional one. It makes less messes and it's easier to dispose 5 quarts of oil.

The hardest part is really the canister. I bought the metal oil filter wrench but couldn't get a good grip. I took a shop paper towel, wrapped it around the canister and was able to get it off just with the oil filter wrench after.

Another thing I messed up on was during the attempt to remove the oil filter canister. Be sure to hold the canister upright as much as you can. I saw another DIY that says to unscrew the one bolt for the radiator reservoir and get it out of the way. It's probably more convenient but you can probably do without. Also... be sure to align the oil bucket properly to ensure the oil drips into it as for me, I completely missed it and there is a good amount of oil left over in that canister.

Default 2.0T oil change how to

thanks for the detailed step-by-step directions with pics. I'm attempting to change my oil for the first time this weekend. Did you have any problems with the torqs head stripping when removing the skid plate? I had a difficult time removing my wifes skid plate (with torqs head screws) on her VW bug... what a friggin nightmare.
