Evening ,
Sadly my 05 2.0 tdi decided to die tonight. Low pressure warning. On inspection looking into the engine bay the lower left was Saturated with oil. Off to recover tomorrow but suggestions on what's gone so I would be too shocked tomorrow by the cost would be good!

Your '05 is a different series than the B5, but nevertheless it sounds like something external to the engine let go and dumped the oil out. Maybe turbo oil line? That could leave the turbo's bearing starved for oil and cause it to fail. The rest of the engine would likely be alright if you didn't keep driving with the warning on.

Yeah I think it's external checked the dipstick and the oil level is ok. I looked at the turbo and no visible oil around it so not too sure where it's come from.

Balance shaft through the front of the engine :-(
