B7 A4 reliability - better info - please sign up
With JET's support, for which I am very grateful, I've been posting about TrueDelta's reliability research about once a month.
What we provide: actual repair rates updated promptly four times a year.
So far 636 A4 owners have signed up to participate. A very good start, but more are needed.
Participants simply report repairs the month after they occur on a one-page survey. When there are no repairs, they simply report an approximate odometer reading four times a year, at the end of each quarter.
To encourage participation, panel members receive full access to the results for free.

824 owners now signed up. Excellent, but as always more would be even better. The more owners participate, the better the information we can provide to everyone.

We've updated the results for the B7 A4 to include owner experiences through March 2009. In terms of successful repair trips per 100 cars per year:
2008: 56
2007: 43
2005.5-2006: 65
All three are average, which is better than many people expect from an Audi. The B6s have required more repairs.
A big thanks to JET, this forum, and everyone who has been helping. We'll have further updates in August and November. With more participants, we could provide more precise information and post separate results for each engine.

The A4 recently became the third model with over 1,000 owners signed up to participate (now 1019). Thanks, everyone.
We're going to start providing new stats for the odds of requiring no repairs and the odds of getting a lemon. These require larger sample sizes, so additional participants would be helpful.

The 2007 is better than average, the others are average.
We've also introduced two new statistics, "Nada-odds" and "Lemon-odds," to indicate the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop.
In the case of the 2005.5/2006 and 2007, the percentages with no repairs are about 53 and 81, and in both cases the percentage of lemons is less than one.

Recently enhanced the related repair history survey so that it can (optionally) be used as a personal car maintenance record for cars 2000 MY and newer.
