B7 to GTI.....
With my 2 year lease coming to a close, the residual making it too expensive and my mileage at the limit, I decided to look for another car. After a week of research, stress and a dozen test drives, I decided on a MKV GTI. I found a 2006 2 door Black Magic GTI, Package 1 (sunroof, sat radio), DSG and 18" Huff wheels, 14k miles and Certified. With an Original Sticker of 26k even, they were asking $22,900. My dad and I knocked 3k off and called it a day.

The car is so much fun to drive. I feel like the performance of the stock DSG GTI is similar to my GIAC Quattro A4 6 speed at all speeds except a dig. The turn in and feel from the steering wheel is also better than the A4. The brakes are not as good as the A4, but are pretty good. All the mags report no fade from the brakes even though they feel less powerful than the A4, they are still good. Supposedly, pads do wonders for the stock brakes. I traded leather for cloth, halogens for bi-xenons, Auto Climate Control to Manual Climate Control, no Multi-Function Display for MFD, 17s for 18s, stock suspension for sport suspension. All in all, I love it and am glad I stayed with the amazing 2.0T engine. We are still brothers from a different mother.
P.S. I have an IOU from the dealer for a grille without the liscence plate holder.

Very true....
I actually gained space though. Being 6'6" no one sits behind me in any car I have driven. The GTI has just as much leg room as the A4 in the front and back, and more head room in the rear due to the hatchback. Also, the hatchback adds versatility allowing me to throw my dog back there without folding the seat down, and letting her not get hair all over the passenger compartment.
Going from AWD to FWD is def a change. I am sure I will miss it the 2 days a year Columbus, Ohio gets snow covered roads lol. One time I will miss it is when I want to drive fast in the rain.
As for the Audi to VW, yeah its a step down, but being 22, I can deal with owning a new A4 for 2 years, and now buying a VW. We will see what happens when I actually graduate college.
