Default Best way to go about painting brake calipers?

I want a nice porsche red brake caliper set. What's the best way to go about this? How hard/easy is it to paint these things? Do you need to disassemble the brake unit or can you do it on-wheel? What paint do you use? Any over coat? Wanna make it last as long as the car and look OEM quality. Thanks

Default Couple of options -

1) You could mask off just the parts you want to paint, use Hi-Temp engine paint from your local auto parts store, and it will look great.

2) You can buy a 'brake paint kit' and use that. (more $$)

3) You can pull your brakes off, take them to your body shop for them to prep the parts and then bake on a finish. (even more $$)

#1 has worked for me several times. Make sure you use a lot of brake cleaner before painting and the paint will stick well and last.

Default Just buy a painting kit..

I did mine this weekend, and they look awesome

i just jacked each wheel up, took the wheel off, taped of areas i didn't want to paint, then carefully painted where i wanted it.

i used a G2 paint kit, it worked well

Just wondering, will the result difference will be noticeable? Also, will the paint fade away by time? I am thinking to paint mine black. I don't want it to become gray overtime

Default No noticeable difference

I've used heat paint a few times and it's lasted for years.

How long with the paint last with regular wheel cleaning using certain wheel cleaners?

Default 643 days and 2 hours.

Your mileage may vary. For me I never had to re-paint, but then I don't know what wheel cleaner you're using. If it's strong enough to eat through paint I wouldn't use it on my wheels...
