Default decision time - 2008 Avant 2.0 Q, 6 MT

Coming off lease in 3 months and trying to decide what to do - give it back or buy it.
Perfect condition late '08 factory ordered Special Edition Quartz Gray.
Delivered April 2008.
Manual, Convenience package, Sport suspension.
The SEs had the Sline trim.
None that I saw had the Conv package with bi - xenons and Sport Suspension so I had to order it.
I put Conti Extreme Contact DWS rubber on it at 30K.
It will have 42K at lease end.
Nothing in the market seems to have what this Avant has and it is a pleasure to drive.
Had the dealer check it out today and there are no wear and tear items to worry about - I still have over 50% life left on the brake pads.
Seems like a steal at $19,400 residual with various local NY/NJ/CT area dealers trying to sell '08 SE Avants anywhere from $28 - 32,000.

What is the deal with CPOing a lease car if I buy it? Can I work out the extended warranty directly with AFS or does a dealer need to be involved?

Don't forget you can't buy manual A4 Avants in North America anymore. That was a major factor for me factory ordering my A4 Avant in MY2008.

If you like it keep it. Heck if it were me, and I did not want to keep the car, I would still be tempted to take it for $19,400 and flip it. There are always users on various Audi forums looking for manual Avants.

I wish mine was manual.

Considering the buy and flip idea.

I bought and sold a sweet, end of the model line, allroad that we leased from Feb '05 to '08.
It was manual too - rare - and loaded.
Craig's Listed it locally and got a hit right away.
Sold for a nice profit that helped me take care of getting the Avant.
Even now I wish I still had that car and never sold it.
Allroad wagons look so good on the street.
Will the A4 allroad look as good? Nah !

I was quoted a cost of $1,795 for the Audi CPO warranty.
Can't buy direct from AFS and non negotiable.
Sound right?

Basically I can buy it for the residual of 19,400 plus sales taxes and the $350 fee to AFS = all in 20,900
Or, work it through the dealer and get it CPO'd plus the taxes, registration and conveyance fees = all in 23,400.
My salesman did not mention any other costs.
Additional $2,500.

Doesn't seem worth it.
I'll have 6 months and 8k miles left of warranty if I buy it plus another paid up front scheduled maintenance.

I think I'm living with it - I know the car so well and enjoy driving it plus there is no current A4 I want that much.

really disappointed with my local dealer and salesman.
There is just no deal to make with these guys.
Is business that good?
No win win offer to put out there?
Is audi that restrictive?
I know my Avant would be a money maker for them.
Other brand ads talk about early lease termination , free service, etc.
Its summer close out season - time to move the metal.
I get nothing from my dealer or salesman.
If that's how Audi plays the game, I feel its a losing bet.
I will check other local Audi stores - perhaps its just my local store and salesman...

What sort of win win offer did you want and what exactly did you get? You don't own the car so I there's no trade-in value on a new one.

With the residual at 19,400 you said yourself they could re-sell at 28-32K. Let's say it costs $X to repair to CPO levels.

Profit for them is likely 28K-$X-$19400.

What do they make if they sell to you at $Y-$19400+$1795CPO-$X repairs where $Y is their price to you.

Looking at your number, looks like they can make $700 from you or a whole bunch more by selling to someone else.

I'd buy the car at residual and use the $2500 "saved" as your repair slush fund.

there isn't anything to repair or fix..they just checked the car themselves and gave me a printout showing everything was perfect...how about early lease termination buy out; heavily discounted Audi "scheduled maintenance" ( BMW,Infiniti and even Volvo is free or wrapped into the price of the car for up to 5 years); an invoice quote on a 2011 or 2012 new car - they make their money on the resale of the Avant after they "buy" it from AFS...its not like I haven't bought multiple vehicles from them - I have purchased or leased 4 previously since 2002...I'm not the car salesman but expect they have a lot of deals they could consider...all I ask is to pitch me one.
