My wife's 2008 Audi A4 Quattro came back today with a check engine light. Upon running a scan to determine what the reason for the light was, I discovered that my HEX-NET Ross-Tech analyzer was not reading any codes related to the Engine or any OBDII sensors. Any attempt to read the OBDII data yielded a #33 Error "Timed Out" after three tries to retrieve the information. I was reluctant to disconnect the battery because I don't know where the radio code is, but tried everything else that I could think of including resetting the cashe on the HEX-NET and various sequences of connecting the HEX-NET. I still had some of my older scans for this car and discovered that none had any reading from any engine or OBDII sensor.

The HEX-NET device is working, because it has been double checked against a 2008 Audi A6 Quattro, and in that vehicle it reads all sensors. I am wondering at this point whether the ECU was tampered with by the previous owner to evade OBDII testing since there is a permitted exception for vehicles that cannot have their OBDII data read [at least in NY]. However, I have a vague memory of having run a diagnostic on this vehicle when we first looked at it and the [then USB version of the HEX-NET] HEX-CAN USB device read the OBDII data and listed Engine codes.

Any help would be appreciated.
